A word from CJ

The time has come for me to move aside and retire as Artistic Director of the Lieder Theatre Company. I’ve spent many months reflecting on this decision and believe, that after 30 amazing years as director, this is the best time to hand the reigns over to a new creative team to move the Company forward with new energy to reinvigorate and inspire our wonderful family of passionate theatre makers and audience members.

I’m very proud of my time and achievements as Artistic Director, but these could not have been possible without the wonderful support and creative partnerships made along the way. Creating good theatre is about teamwork, sharing, listening, and negotiating possibilities. I have worked with some amazing people at the Lieder and together we have forged some brilliant theatre. But now I really do believe there is some incredible creative talent around, and only good things will come of giving them a chance to shine.

An announcement will be made very soon about what will happen and who will replace me at the Lieder, and I am very excited about the decisions we have made. Please support and join them in the new work being created as much as you supported my vision over the years.

All the very best to the Lieder board and all the committed members and patrons of the Lieder.   May you all continue to grow and thrive and nurture and excite audiences as the longest running theatre company in the country.

Shalom,
Chrisjohn

We're pleased and excited to welcome our new Artistic Director, Blake Selmes.

Blake is already a familiar and much-loved face at the Lieder, having performed in, directed, and designed many shows over the last several years.
