Mighty Playwrights GALA 2021
Directed by Blake Selmes
December 2021

Every child has a story worth telling.
Goulburn Mulwaree Library’s multi award-winning Mighty Playwrights Program inspires young people to discover the power of their own thoughts and voices through literacy education, storytelling, and the performing arts. Mighty Playwrights encourages and celebrates self-expression, lifelong learning and the free exploration of ideas and the imagination.
In 2021 seven local primary school students, nominated by their schools, worked with professional mentors at Goulburn Mulwaree Library to develop and write short playscripts. Their mentors guided and assisted them to find their voices.
Once completed, the scripts are handed over to the Lieder Theatre Company to transform them into full-scale stage productions. The scripts are treated with the same respect and given the same treatment as any other professional production would be.
Now in its second year, the Mighty Playwrights Program won the 2020 Australia Day Event of the Year, and the Southern Tablelands Arts President’s Award for Creative Merit
